Water as a way of life
Growing up I was always around water. We kept aquariums in the house and my summers were spent playing in the local creek, rivers and lakes. In High School I got my SCUBA certification as a means to further explore aquatic environments. Growing up working with my dad, as a Landscape Contractor, we took pride in building realistic-looking "dry" stream beds. We used to talk about how they would look with water flowing through them, but at the time had no experience in making that vision a reality. In 1996, that changed.
Together we attended a "build a pond day" and began designing and building our own ponds and water features. What happened next is what separates myself from many others. Our customers began to have problems, and we began to receive calls from frustrated pond owners who were also having problems. This did not fit the "get in, get out and get paid" philosophy that was pitched at the "build a pond days." I quickly realized that the "kit" approach did not actually fit well with our designs, our climate, nor our customers needs.
I began to do my own research and invested a lot of time trying different approaches to a wide variety of problems. I found the right resources and began to become successful at solving pond problems. Calls continued to come in from pond owners with ponds built by other contractors. The exposure to seeing how others designed and executed the construction of their ponds has proven invaluable. I saw some things that worked and a lot of things that did not. Most importantly, that exposure kept me from being entirely focused on what I thought was "the right way" of doing things. That exposure also allows me to quickly troubleshoot problems, just from simply knowing who originally built the pond and being familiar with their work.
I initially used this information to help myself build better ponds. I always saw the potential need for a reliable pond service and maintenance company. Every time that a call came in for a problem, I took it. Over the years my customer list has continued to grow. In 2013 I stopped all pond and water feature construction and began to focus entirely on repairs, renovations, maintenance and helping people with pond problems. To this day, I still have many of my early clients and those relationships are what I am most proud of.
